The State Claims Board was created by the Nebraska Legislature to provide uniform procedures for filing tort, miscellaneous, and contract claims against the State and/or an employee of the State. The State Claims Board is compromised of the Director of Insurance, Director of Administrative Services and the Commissioner of Labor. A member of the Attorney General’s Office acts as the Board’s legal advisor. The Board has the authority to consider, ascertain, adjust, compromise, settle, determine and allow any claim between $5,001.00 and $50,000.00, and those claims less than $5,001 .00 that have previously been denied by the State Risk Manager.
The State Claims Board holds its hearing quarterly in the State Capitol Building. The dates of the hearings are posted in the Office of Risk Management, along with an agenda of all claims to be heard.
