Setting up a Recurring Journal Entry Lesson

In this lesson you will learn how to set up a recurring journal entry.


  1. Click the State of Nebraska link.

  2. Click the Accounting link.

  3. Click the Manage Journal Entry link.

  4. Click the Enter Manual Journal Entries link.

  5. Click the Enter Recurring Journal Entries link.

    Step 5
  6. Click the Add button.

  7. Document Type – select code for the purpose of the transaction 


    Note: This field defaults to JA. 


    In this lesson we will not change this field.

  8. Click in the Company field.

    Step 8
  9. Enter the Fund number into the Company field. 


    For this lesson enter "10000".

  10. Click in the G/L Date field.

    Step 10
  11. Enter the general ledger date into the G/L Date field.


    Note: Usually this is the current date.  


    For this lesson enter "3/14/11".

  12. Click in the Explanation field.

    Step 12
  13. Enter an explanation of the recurring journal entry into the Explanation field. 


    For this lesson enter "Training Example".

  14. Click in the Recur Frequency field.

    Step 14
  15. Enter the frequency for transaction to occur into the Recur Frequency field.


    Use the Visual Assist tool if needed.  


    For this lesson enter "MO".

  16. Click in the Method of Allocation field.

  17. In the Method of Allocation field enter the method of allocation.  Use the Visual Assist button if needed.  


    Click the Visual Assist button.

  18. For this lesson we will use the Fixed Amount option, which is selected by default. 


    Click the Select button.

  19. Click in the Account Number field in the QBE line.

  20. Enter the credit account into the Account Number field. 


    For this lesson enter "65070028.559165".

  21. Click in the Amount field.

    Step 21
  22. Enter the credit amount into the Amount field.


    Note: Credit amount (negative amount). Begin negative amounts with a minus (-) in front of the amount. Example: -125.00  


    For this lesson enter "-5.00".

  23. Click the Account Number field of the next line.

    Step 23
  24. Enter the debit account into the Account Number field. 


    For this lesson enter "65070028.559165".

    Step 24
  25. Click in the Amount field.

    Step 25
  26. Enter the debit amountinto the Amount field.


    Note: Dredit amount (positive amount). Positive amounts should be entered as a regular dollar amount. Example: 125.00  


    For this lesson enter "5.00".
