State of Nebraska ADA Task Force Charter

Mission: The mission of the State of Nebraska ADA Task Force is to coordinate the efforts of state agencies, boards and commissions to comply with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Composition: The Committee shall consist of 13 members and shall be comprised of any combination of the following persons:

  • State of Nebraska ADA Coordinator (Task Force Chair)
  • Executive Director, Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Executive Director, Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired
  • Administrator, 309 Task Force
  • DAS-State Personnel Director and/or DAS-Employee Relations Administrator
  • Executive Director, Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission
  • Chief Information Officer for the State of Nebraska
  • Non-Profit Organization that serves/represents individuals/families with disabilities
  • Non-Profit Organization that serves/represents individuals/families with disabilities
  • Non-Profit Organization that serves/represents individuals/families with disabilities
  • Member of the Public who is an individual with a disability
  • Member of the Public who is an individual with a disability
  • Member of the Public who is an individual with a disability

Quorum: In order for business to occur at any Task Force meeting, a quorum must be present. A quorum shall be met if at least 7 members are present. Members may be present via phone.

Duties: The Task Force shall:

  1. Meet quarterly, at a time and place convenient for a majority of the Task Force to attend.
  2. Adopt and distribute a public notice about the relevant provisions of the ADA to all persons who may be interested in or need access to the State of Nebraska’s programs, policies, activities, services and facilities.
  3. Develop and publish compliant procedures to provide fair and prompt resolution of complaints under Title II of the ADA.
  4. Oversee implementation of any changes required to bring all programs, policies, activities, services and facilities offered to the public by the State of Nebraska into full compliance with Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act;
  5. Confer with and advise state agencies, boards and commissions of the State of Nebraska on issues affecting compliance with Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act;
  6. Report, annually or more frequently if the Task Force determines additional reporting to be in the best interest of the State of Nebraska, to the Director of the Department of Administrative Services on the State’s progress in ensuring that the programs, policies, activities, services and facilities offered to the public are compliant with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  7. Provide training and resource materials for state agencies, boards and commissions in the areas of customer service, etiquette, and sensitivity towards individuals with a variety of disabilities and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  8. Other responsibilities that would benefit the State of Nebraska at the direction of the Director of the Department of Administrative Services.
