We have been in discussions with U. S. Bank for the past few months, working to provide our employees the opportunity to receive all or a portion of their pay on a payroll card. We have also discussed this at various payroll user group meetings. Our initial goal is to try to convert many employees currently receiving warrants to the payroll card.

The payroll card works like this. An employee will request their pay to be direct deposited to the payroll card, in the same way employees currently use direct deposit of their pay into their checking accounts. Their pay will be “put on the card” and the employees can withdraw cash from ATM’s or tellers or use the card for purchases on the internet, at the grocery store, gas station, etc. The attached insert, which we will stuff in the warrants at the end of May for monthly employees and in June for biweekly employees, provides more explanation.

Expense reimbursements may also be deposited onto this payroll card by following the same procedures in the instructions.

The instructions and related forms to process the employees’ signing up for the payroll card are also attached. The instructions and forms are also on the State Accounting’s website. It is important that you review these procedures so when your employees come to you to sign up, you will be well versed in how to process their requests. If you have any questions on this process, please give State Accounting a call.
