SUBJECT:     Independent Contractual Services

New Legislation has been introduced in the US House of Representatives that provides for increased penalties for misclassification cases of employees vs. independent contractor (see attachment).  Please note this does not include corporate contractors.  In light of this, AS State Accounting would like to review policies, procedures and or guidelines your agency uses to identify individuals who are independent contractors.  Please document the requested information in a reply email.  If your agency has not used an independent contractor in the last 2 years, please state this in a reply email; and no additional documentation will be needed.
